UDiscuss Seminars

Last week Wednesday 18th June was the relaunch of UDiscuss, Urban Development's seminars in conjunction with 1xtra, RWD & Music Week. I found out about it an hour and a half before it was due to start, so I flew down there (thank goodness I was near by!) to secure myself a good ole last minute dot com place.

Held in Roundhouse Studios, Chalk Farm (Camden), London, the first session was called iSociety and explored the business of promotion in the digital age and the power of online brands and communities.

The panel was pretty darn weighty:
Morgan Thomas (ex-Polydor, A&R digital consultant)
Caroline Prothero (managing director of Prohibition)
Andrew Davis (marketing & content producer for Myspace)

The seminar was hosted by Twin B, and it was pretty dope because as the group wasn't too large, we really got to pick the brains of people with real experience in the digital world. We spoke about everything from Myspace's revised remit to musicians sacrificing artistry for endorsement deals.

I met a few interesting people, from the panel members to Marvin Harrison the promoter & the Fuzzy Logic bin man.

It was alot. If you missed it - poor you. The GREAT news is, there are 5 other seminars planned, one of them happening THIS Wednesday 25th (which I'm going to miss, and I am very sad!)

Wednesday 25th June 7pm

Mind Of A Music Entrepreneur
Panel:
Justin Stennet (Dubplate Drama)
Bless Beatz (Producer)
Trevor Nelson (BBC Radio One)
Jordan Kensington (Invincible Media)

The Art Of The Deal (the art of deal brokering & publishing)
Panel:
Jonathan Shalit (Shalit Global)
Michael Morley (Zomba)
Gary Mandel (Spraggon Stennett Brabyn)
